| News Release: August 22, 2005 ATB Financial launches fifth annual STARS campaign Calgary, Alberta - ATB Financial today launches its fifth annual STARS (Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) fundraising campaign. Seventeen branches of the financial institution will host special events and activities until September 10 to raise money for this worthwhile cause. "As a partner in the community, ATB Financial is proud to support organizations like STARS that contribute to the well being of Albertans," says Kathie Arychuk, Manager of Community Relations. "Last year, we raised over $53,000, and we look forward to the public's support again this year." The participating branches are: Banff, Breton, Brooks, Canmore, Crossfield, Olds, Innisfail, Ponoka, Rimbey, Stettler, Wainwright, Wetaskiwin, all three Red Deer Branches, as well as the Brentwood and Chinook branches in Calgary. Customers will be invited to donate $2 for STARS, and they will receive an entry form for a chance to win prizes. STARS volunteers will also have booths at each branch at various times during the campaign to raise awareness. "Since 1998, ATB Financial has raised over $385,000 for STARS," says Dr. Gregory Powell, President and CEO of STARS. "We look forward to working with ATB to make this year's campaign just as successful." STARS is a non-profit, charitable organization providing an emergency aeromedical transport system to critically ill and injured patients in Alberta and communities in southeastern British Columbia. Ongoing professional development, training and research are also significant components of the STARS program. Funding for STARS is provided through individual, service club and corporate donations and through their relationship with Alberta Health and Wellness. This year marks STARS 20th anniversary, and since its inception, STARS has contributed to the care of more than 12,500 critically ill and injured patients.
