Who says hard work can’t be fun?

Posted on: October 13, 2015 | Author: ATB Business & Agriculture

We asked the three co-owners of YYC Cycle Spin Studio what they wished they knew before they launched their business.

“I wish I knew how much hard work and time it would take,” said Grady Topak.

“I think we had an idea of it, but until you kind of get into the real deal, you don't really realize how much you sacrifice from your personal life in order to run a business.”

Warren Matzelle added, “I think there are a lot of people out there, entrepreneurs, who do things really, really well and make it look really, really easy, but the truth of the matter is it’s not that easy.”

Grady also talked about the importance of the people you bring into your business.

“You have to find the right people, you have to feel comfortable with them, they have to feel comfortable with you. There has to be that mutual respect.”

“I wish I knew that it was going to be this much fun," chimed in Andrew Obrecht, always upbeat and, according to the other two, the best dancer in the trio.

"I wish I knew that the impact of a community of people coming together with a common goal to just inspire each other would have been so pervasive in so many people’s lives. Yeah, I probably would have started it earlier.”

When it comes to starting a business there will always be things you don’t know. But one thing that's good to know is that there is a bank that believes in you. ATB Financial has been there with the YYC Cycle team from the beginning.

“When we first were in contact with ATB it was a different experience right off the get-go,” recalls Grady.

“It was like they understood where we lived and where we were going to be doing business...they seemed to have the faith in us that other banks didn’t.”
