You’ve probably heard of Flash Mobs and Cash Mobs, but likely never a GoodMob. It wasn’t something Wellington Holbrook, Executive Vice President of ATB Business & Agriculture, had heard about either when presented with the chance to help sponsor the first GoodMob in history. But after taking part he was thrilled to have ATB involved in the event, which was all about supporting local, independent businesses and ‘‘doing good in the hood’.

Check out the video from the first GoodMob, which took place at Reid’s Stationers, located on 17th Ave. SW in Calgary.

“Small, independent business owners often struggle to find ways to stand out because they don’t have big marketing budgets,” said Holbrook. “Creating a GoodMob certainly provides businesses with a unique way to reach customers and support community at the same time.”

GoodMob is a Calgary-based organization that was formed to create real change in our communities. By using social media to promote the first event, mostly on Facebook and Twitter, almost 100 people turned up and took part. In one hour, over $3,500 was spent at the family-owned business and afterwards everyone gathered at nearby Fiore’s Cantina, another independent business, to celebrate.

Both Reid’s and Fiore’s donated at least 20% of their proceeds during the GoodMob to the Janus Academy Society, a local school for autistic children, which is the other truly unique benefit of the GoodMob idea.
