Elk Island National Park has more hoofs per square kilometre than any other wild area in the world.

Plains bison, wood bison, elk, moose, white-tailed deer, and mule deer are among the hoofed mammals that call Elk Island home. Coyotes, beavers, and 250 species of birds also occupy the lush park at various times of year.

This month marks the 106th birthday of Elk Island. It was first established as a game sanctuary in July 1906, then as a Dominion Park in March 1913. In 1930, the Government of Canada established the National Parks Act and Elk Island became one of Alberta’s stunning National Parks.
