Where there’s a way to better security

At ATB Financial our number one concern is protecting our customers’ privacy. That is why we are participating in an industry initiative to implement the highly secure Chip card. Although this conversion is expected to take place over several years, ATB Financial is devoted to keeping you up to date every step of the way.

What is Chip? Chip technology is an evolution in the card payment industry and has been implemented successfully in European and Asian countries. With this new technology, your debit and credit cards will have a microchip embedded into them. This microchip increases the security of your card making it more difficult for unauthorized users to access your information. When a Chip card is used in conjunction with a Chip equipped Automated Banking Machine (ABM) or point-of-sale terminal, they work together to ensure a highly secure transaction by validating the card with the cardholder's information. Chip transactions are customer driven, the cardholder inserts their card into the terminal, ensuring they maintain control of their card during the entire transaction.

Not much will change.

To ensure a smooth transition from the current magnetic strip technology to Chip, all terminals and ABMs will continue to accommodate both types of cards. For Debit users, the transaction process will be the same as it is now, simply follow the prompts and enter your PIN. Credit cards will be converted to the same process and PIN verification will replace your signature.
