Team ATB campaign raises $60,000 for six Alberta athletes

The snow and ice have melted (finally!) so what better time to wrap up ATB’s most exciting winter project?

Team ATB—the grassroots fundraising campaign for six Alberta Olympic athletes—took place January 20-March 31, during the Sochi Olympic and Paralympic games. ATB team members and Albertans from across the province joined forces to provide financial support to the six deserving amateur athletes: Jesse Lumsden, Kirk Schornstein, Justin Snith, Atsuko Tanaka, Tristan Walker, and Brooke Voigt.

At ATB’s annual public meeting on Thursday, May 29, it was announced that Team ATB raised $60,000, which means $10,000 for each athlete. The funds were composed of donations through ATB Cares, ATB Financial matching funds, and clothing sales to ATB team members.

The final component of the Team ATB campaign wasn’t a financial donation but a donation of expertise. ATB will provide ongoing, one-on-one financial advice to each of the athletes, to help them make the most of the funds and be financially prepared for future competitions and life after retirement from competition.

Living and training as an amateur athlete isn’t easy—physically or financially—and the funds raised through Team ATB will make a big difference in the lives of these hard-working role models.
