Junior ATB expands to eight new schools

Schools, parents, and students welcome financial literacy program to Fort McMurray and Lloydminster

ATB’s popular, province-wide elementary school program, Junior ATB, expanded to eight new schools this week, bringing financial literacy education to young Albertans in Fort McMurray and Lloydminster.

“Those two words, financial literacy, might sometimes be tough to feel instantly jazzed about,” said Dave Mowat, President and CEO of ATB Financial. “But, ask any parent, any adult if they wish they knew just a little more about money and finances a little earlier in their lives, and I’m guessing the answer is one word: yes.”

Junior ATB is an elementary school program that helps grow an appreciation for money as a renewable resource to be managed. The program provides students in grades 4-6, under the supervision and with the support of ATB Financial associates, the chance to run their own school-based banks.

Positions from teller to chairman of the board are filled by students themselves. It’s a unique learning environment from which it’s proven impossible not to draw lessons about money management, leadership, and community building.

To find out how your school can participate in Junior ATB, send an email to Sean Garritty at sgarritty@atb.com.
