Fans First Contest: Desiree’s Story

The storyteller here, Desiree Stewart, won $1000 from ATB’s Fans First Family Night hockey contest. Here she tells ATB.com why she decided to spend the prize money on everyone but herself. Thanks, Desiree.
I was sitting at work on December 30, with a skeleton staff and an overall subdued feeling. But then I received an email stating I had won the contest of $1000 toward a family hockey night. I was floored and incredibly grateful! I definitely got teary as I thought of my three boys being able to attend a hockey game at the new downtown arena.
I quickly told my co-workers, phoned my dad, emailed friends...it was the perfect conclusion to a wonderful Christmas break with my boys. And can I say going to pick up the gift bag with the cheque and a jersey and other goodies made the win that much better?
As I reflected on taking them to the game, I thought about where their passion for hockey comes from. It comes from their dad, my ex-husband. He bought each of them jerseys for Christmas. Isn't going to a game just the icing on the cake? So I phoned Tom and told him that I was gifting him the money to take his boys out for a boys night of hockey.
Although our marriage didn't work out, we've worked hard on a friendly relationship for the sake of the boys and for each other. If each of us look through the viewpoint of what's best for our boys, it's easy to make the right decision. Needless to say, Tom was thrilled and started looking for tickets. They went to the Edmonton/New Jersey game on Thursday, January 12.
The puck drops on the next round of our Fans First Hockey Contest January 30.
