Interest-free financing to help with operating costs when revenues are down
Interest free until December 31, 2022
Eligible businesses and not-for-profits receive up to $60,000 at 0% interest until December 31, 2022. The remaining balance is then converted to a 3-year term loan with interest of 5% per annum.
Up to $20,000 loan forgiveness
Repaying $30,000 of a $40,000 CEBA loan by December 31, 2022 can result in loan forgiveness of $10,000. Repaying $40,000 of a $60,000 CEBA loan by this date can result in loan forgiveness of $20,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Government of Canada provided processes to fix all CEBA expansion declines. On June 7, 2021, ATB emailed the first set of clients with further instructions on how to proceed. On July 29, 2021 the second set of clients was provided an instructional email as well.
If you received a decline code with Reason Code 32, the Government of Canada is investigating each decline. ATB will provide further instructions through an email when we have received correspondence regarding your file.
Aside from Reason Code 32, if you continue to have issues with fixing your CEBA expansion application or you have not received an email with instructions, please reach out to us for assistance.
The Government of Canada has conducted post funding checks on those clients who received the $40,000 CEBA loan but didn’t apply for the expansion. These checks have identified errors within the application that could deem you eligible for your CEBA loan.
On July 29, 2021, ATB emailed those clients further instructions on how to remedy these initial errors. ATB will submit your application for correction to the Government of Canada and provide the outcome in an email. The outcome can take 12-15 business days to receive.
The deadline to submit a new CEBA application was June 30, 2021. The deadline to upload any supporting documentation for your application was July 14, 2021.
The deadline for applicants who had document upload issues to resolve to resubmit a corrected application was September 3, 2021.
If you had been invited to remediate your CEBA expansion, the deadline to remediate was September 10, 2021.
If you have been invited to reclassify your CEBA expansion application, the deadline to reclassify and submit Non-Deferrable-Expense support documents is October 1, 2021.
If approved for a $60,000 CEBA loan or $20,000 CEBA expansion loan, you should expect to receive funding within 12 to 15 business days after you submit your completed application form and upload all necessary supporting documents.
Applicants can now check the status of their CEBA application online at the CEBA Application Status Website. Please wait at least 5 business days after submitting your application before checking your status.
If your application is declined, the CEBA Application Status Website will provide more detailed information on decline reasons and will offer solutions to fix issues which led to a decline.
Alternatively, you are also able to contact the federal government’s CEBA Call Centre at 1-888-324-4201. The CEBA Call Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 9 pm EST (that’s 6 am to 7 pm in Alberta).
To apply under the Non-Deferrable Expense Stream for reclassification you will need three main pieces of information to complete the application:
- The name of the financial institution where you submitted your application; and
- Your 9-digit business number (same number you used in your application with your financial institution); and
- Electronic or paper copies of Receipts / Invoices / Agreements to be uploaded as evidence of your 2020 eligible non-deferrable expenses.

The funds from this loan can only be used to pay non-deferrable operating expenses of the business including payroll, rent, utilities, insurance, and property tax. The funds may not be used to cover any payments or expenses such as prepayment/refinancing of existing indebtedness, payments of dividends, distributions and increases in management compensation.

CEBA is an interest-free loan until December 31, 2022. Beginning on January 1, 2023, interest will accrue on the balance of the 3 year term loan at the rate of 5% per annum.
Any expansion application declined by the Government of Canada would have been given a decline reason code. ATB has provided email instructions to those clients who are able to fix their expansion application. If you have not received an email, please reach out to us for assistance.
- Double check that your email address was entered correctly. If there is an error in your email you can edit it to fix the error and a new verification code email will be sent to the updated email address.
- If your email was entered correctly, our verification code email might be sitting in your junk or spam folder. Check these folders for an email from ATB Financial. Alternatively, you can click the link on the Email Verification page to "request a new one".
- If this works and you find or receive the verification code, you can enter it into the system to proceed with your CEBA application.
