On June 14, over 50 ATB associates joined forces to support the Canadian Cancer Society in the 2013 Relay for Life in Grande Prairie. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Canadian Cancer Society, and each year, Relay for Life contributes a big part of the organization's annual fundraising goals.

The event in Grande Prairie, of which ATB is title sponsor, attracts upwards of 1700 participants and aims to raise $450,000 towards the national campaign. The relay is a 12-hour overnight fundraiser where teams take turns walking track laps throughout the night. Each team must keep at least one member on the track at all times while other participants enjoy music, food, activities, and entertainment in the event's "tent city."

"There isn't a person out there that hasn't been touched by cancer in some way," said Karla Percy, co-chair of the annual event. Karla was also a member of the ATB "Loansharks", a team made up of 29 ATB associates participating in the relay.

"It's twelve hours of fun, entertainment, and togetherness, filled with emotional highs and lows" said Karla. "It brings associates together for one night in a context outside of work, and to support a very important cause."

In addition to ATB's title sponsorship of the event, the Loansharks received a team sponsorship through Helping Hands, ATB's volunteer program that contributes much needed financial support to charitable organizations where associates volunteer their time.
