The eagle has landed! Or, to be more accurate, the Classic has landed at the Eagle. Confused yet? Let us clarify. This year's ATB Financial Classic is coming to the Links of GlenEagles in Cochrane July 30 to August second.

The seventh stop on the PGA Canada's Mackenzie Tour is sure to challenge players with the foothills terrain offering changes in elevation, holes along a 200 foot cliff above the Bow River Valley, and of course a breathtaking view of the Rocky Mountains.

It’s a great opportunity for spectators and volunteers to see high calibre competitors right here in Alberta.

“These golfers are on the verge of being worldwide stars,” says John Windwick, ATB Financial Vice President, Community Initiatives.

“Graham DeLaet won the ATB Classic in 2009 and has been as high as the 32nd ranked player in the world, now playing on the PGA TOUR. Nick Taylor, another Canadian Tour graduate won his first PGA Tour event this year in only his 4th event! Last year we had a record breaking tournament total of 27 under from our winner Brock Mackenzie. We had Brady Schnell shoot a 59 to beat the previous course record by 2 shots. These guys are good!”

The ATB Financial Classic also has a significant charitable component. Since 2007, the tournament has donated $350,000 to local charities. The official charity of the 2015 ATB Financial Classic is Every Kid Every Community—a Hockey Alberta Initiative which provides funding for minor hockey players who would not otherwise be able to afford fees and/or equipment. The goal is to raise $50,000 in 2015.

According to Windwick, the event is well worth putting on your summer to-do list.

“Spectators can look forward to a family friendly event, a beautiful golf course—and hopefully weather—and some of the best golf they’ll ever watch live!”
