A ladies-only audience enjoyed an evening of laughter October 16 to help launch the 2013 Edmonton Comedy Festival, presented by ATB Financial. Featuring accomplished comedians Monique Marvez, Julie Kim, and Allyson Smith, Funny Fabulous Females kicked off the festival with feminine flair the likes of which the Art Gallery of Alberta has never seen.
"At ATB, we've challenged ourselves to think big and think differently in all aspects of what we do. We want to be a connector for the various charities and organizers that support our communities," says Sandra Huculak, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility & Community Investment.
An intimate group of 85 fabulous females attended, including the Honourable Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture; business leaders; charities; as well as participants from Empower U—a financial literacy program for women, partnering with inner-city agencies.
"The joy of a good laugh can inspire hope and enlighten your soul," Huculak says. "The Edmonton Comedy Festival harnesses this power in a celebration of humour and artistic expression, and putting an emphasis on women for opening night is even more empowering."
This is the second ladies comedy night ATB Financial has hosted in connection with the Edmonton Comedy Festival. The terrific response to last year's private performance by Monique Marvez especially for women from the Empower U program inspired organizers to expand the event.
