Crude gains $1.05

Crude prompt futures traded in a range of $1.51 and closed at $52.42, gaining $1.05 on Friday. Brent was up by $1.33 and settled at $55.49. Baker Hughes data showed that oil rigs in the US rose by 29 bringing the total oil rigs to 551. The total active rigs in the US now sits at 694. Bloomberg has reported that the Saudi Minister of Energy and Industry Khalid Al-Falih has advised that producers have removed 1.5 million barrels a day of supply from the market.

Russia has reduced production by 108,000 barrels a day for the month of January, with a commitment to further cut to 300,000 by April or May.
