Natural gas gains 3 cents

Posted on: September 07, 2017

Prompt natural gas futures pushed their way back to a $3.00 settle as Hurricane Irma's path makes its way towards Florida by this weekend. I would anticipate some dramatic swings in the price of NG during the next couple of days until the weather data is more conclusive. If Irma touches down in Florida as a category 5 storm the damage could be catastrophic-- with mass power outage throughout the region. As for the rest of the U.S, the Commodity Weather Group presented normal to cooler than average temperature for the greater Eastern area through Sept 20th.

The Hurricane has shifted attention from weekly EIA inventory numbers but the most recent BNEF estimate is for a 69-Bcf build, marginally above average.
