USDCAD slips ahead of busy week

Posted on: November 14, 2017

For those that enjoyed the long weekend we are off to a fast start this morning. A strong German GDP report has the Euro ripping higher, with EURUSD back above 1.17. UK inflation disappointed, dragging Sterling lower. After running the stops above 1.2750 USDCAD has drifted lower as USD selling against the crosses pulls it down. The band around 1.2750/60 remains initial resistance with major support around 1.2600.

A very busy week for a short week, with plenty of risk events and key data to watch. This morning US PPI came in better than expected which may be a preview of US CPI tomorrow. We also get US Retail Sales tomorrow while north of the border we hear from Bank of Canada Deputy Governor Carolyn Wilkins. The topic of the speech is ‘Monetary Policy Under Uncertainty’, we will see if she maintains the BoC’s position of a cautious approach for further tightening. Thursday brings manufacturing data and Friday the week is capped off by Canadian CPI. Mix in a sprinkling of NAFTA negotiations and continued rumblings of US Tax Reform and you have the recipe for a very eventful week.
