James leads ATB Wealth’s strategic initiatives to drive a sustainable and prosperous wealth management business today and into the future. In addition, he provides executive oversight to ATB’s Private Banking and Wealth Planning groups.
Previously at ATB Wealth, James led the revenue generating units across all advisory groups in investments, private banking, insurance and wealth advisory expertise. He also oversaw the portfolio management for client assets in ATB’s investment funds.
James’ experience and skill set gives him a unique ability to ideate and develop strategic options to ensure ATB Wealth’s services and products benefit clients and team members, and that our services and products evolve to meet future needs and wants.
Prior to joining ATB in 2014, James served as Vice President and Portfolio Manager for Franklin Templeton managing investment portfolios and client relationships. James’ experience includes time at a buy-side investment boutique firm as a research analyst for small and mid cap stocks. He later led the boutique firm’s business and corporate development. James began his career in accounting roles for a publicly-traded company.
James is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and volunteered on the Board of CFA Society Calgary for five years, including time as President of CFA Society Calgary. He’s a graduate of the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He also holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
James grew up in Canmore and now lives in the Calgary area with his family. Beyond work, James is an avid reader and enjoys cycling, cross-country skiing and all things related to All Blacks rugby, thanks to his family’s New Zealand heritage.
