Average daily oil production in Alberta was 3.7 million barrels in March, largely unchanged from February. This was, however, up by 116 thousand barrels (+3.2%) from March of last year and just shy of the daily peak reached in November 2021.

Conventional output (including condensates) improved for the second month in a row with a 3.4% increase in March and stood at the highest daily level in two years. Meanwhile, daily oil sands production held mostly steady from February.

On a year-to-date basis, Alberta’s total oil output in the first quarter of 2022 was 331 million barrels, slightly higher than production over the same period in both 2021 and 2020.

While gains in total disposition were driven largely by higher volumes exported to destinations outside the province, sales to Alberta’s refineries also remained upbeat during the first three months of the year.
