Seasonally adjusted wholesale revenue in Alberta increased for the second month in a row in September.

After rising by 1.0% in August, wholesale revenue in the province posted a 1.2% gain in September to reach $7.4 billion.

The story was much the same in Canada as a whole, with sales rising in August by 0.7% and then by another 1.0% in September to reach $71.3 billion.

For both Alberta and Canada, the rise was not entirely due to inflation, with wholesale revenue in constant dollars up by about 0.6% in Alberta and by 0.4% in Canada.

In Alberta, gains in the machinery, equipment and supplies sector; the food, beverage and tobacco sector; and the miscellaneous sector offset losses in the farm products sector; personal and household goods sector; building material and supplies sector; and the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts sector.

The combined effects of supply chain disruptions and rising inflation should be more evident when we get the wholesale trade data for October and November.
