#ATBGoodnessGrows Episode 2: What’s been growing

By ATB Financial 16 May 2020 3 min read

We’re on a mission to celebrate and share those acts of goodness—big and small—made by Albertans for their communities. From celebrating moms to supporting non-profits that need our help, goodness keeps growing in many forms.

Here are a few highlights of ways Albertans like you have been “growing good” with #ATBgoodnessgrows:

# of Alberta moms who felt the love on Mother’s Day: too many to count!

This past Mother’s Day, we celebrated all the moms. Moms who bring us socially distanced home-cooked meals. Moms who are no longer with us. The mom who saved up to purchase her daughter’s wedding dress. Moms who are selfless. Moms who are strong. And, moms who might not be moms at all, but love us just as much.

# of dollars your social media shout outs to mom raised for the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters: 10,000

Last weekend, every Tweet, Instagram post and Facebook share celebrating mom helped women and girls in our communities who are in need. So many of you shared stories about the amazing “momfluencers” in your lives using #ATBGoodness grows. Each post lifted our spirits and helped women in Alberta with a $20 donation to the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters for every share.

"At a time when safety is paramount to everyone, (and home can't provide the sanctuary that many of us are able to take for granted), the goal of $10,000 donated from ATB will help Alberta Shelters with adapting supports for women to keep safe under current public health restrictions,” says Jan Reimer, Executive Director, Alberta Council of Women's Shelters.

Goodness also grew in other places. Here’s what we saw:

# of “thinking of you” cards, flowers and care packages: 3 and counting

It’s hard to socially distance yourself from the people you care about most. So, Carol mailed cards to loved ones in her life, Judy sent flowers to her bestie and a friend of Megan’s mailed her a cute care package which included popcorn and wine.

# of families with children who are seriously ill given new ways to play: 50

To support the needs of isolated children who are seriously ill, ATB donated to Starlight Children’s Foundation’s “Play From Home Packs” project. Packs contain board games, crafts and other interactive activities.

# of ear-savers knitted for frontline workers: 12 (and counting)

We’ve heard that wearing a mask all day long can be hard on your ears, so Rosanna took it upon herself to knit “ear-savers” for nurses. She plans to make more as soon as she gets more buttons.

# of bottle drives for cat rescue: a day’s worth

Cats need our goodness too! Apryl and Amanda spent one Saturday picking up bottles donated by friends and family to support the Last Chance Cat Ranch rescue.

# of Free Footie family meals provided: 100

Many Alberta families rely on their school lunch and breakfast programs for healthy meals, so when Free Footie’s after-school sports programming was put on pause, they switched their focus to fill in the gap. With financial support from ATB, Free Footie fuelled their vans, bought groceries and delivered food to kids and their families.

# of spring closet sweeps: 1

’Tis the season for spring cleaning—and spring giving! When Maddy did a closet sweep, she was able to fill two boxes with clothes that she plans to donate when it’s safe to do so.

# of tablets donated to seniors to connect with loved ones: 45

Seniors may not have the means or tech-savviness to connect with their loved ones virtually. So, when Silvera for Seniors approached ATB looking for tablets to give their residents the opportunity to connect with friends and family over video chat, we were happy to help.

# of opportunities for you to inspire some good? Infinite

We’re excited to continue to share and inspire goodness in Alberta. How far we can take this is really up to us, and there’s something amazing about being a part of all this good... together. If you’re feeling inspired, share your own act of kindness using the hashtag #ATBgoodnessgrows, and visit us on social media (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) to see what we’re up to this week.

Happy growing!
