How did you get started as a software developer?

From childhood, I had a curious nature. I started learning what [software testing] is and how it works; the software development lifecycle, bug lifecycle and defect lifecycle – all those things. That’s how I started doing software testing.

How have you seen your career progress?

I started my career as a junior tester in a small company.

From there I took my experience and worked. I joined a different company and I improved my skills. I did some courses on software testing and worked across the globe; I worked in Europe, I worked in Australia in different companies and banks. I got different cultural experiences, and at the same time I kept improving my skills as I was working on different technologies.

Initially I was just doing manual [testing], but now [I’m doing] automation testing – it’s more like software development. I do a lot of scripting, coding, and all those things.

Do you see further career progression happening at ATB? If so, why?

Definitely. The main thing I love about ATB is the scope of learning that [we] have.

The software industry is always progressing. As a software developer I won’t [always] be doing the same thing. So we have to learn new technologies. We have [a program] where we can advance [our skills and knowledge]. We use that understanding to give value to our applications and our customers through upgrading our software.

At ATB I got an opportunity to learn automation testing and progress as an automation tester. Now I am a full-stack software developer who works on automation testing, API testing and UI testing.

Can you speak to the difference in the value that you feel as an employee?

Compared to other [companies], when we have dedicated time during working hours to learn new technologies, it saves us a lot of time after hours. It helps us stress less. You’re not just on your own.

ATB provides me with platforms where I can upgrade my skills and gives me time to work on learning new technologies.

You mentioned that you worked in other countries. Tell us about those countries and why you chose ATB?

I worked in Luxembourg and also in Sydney, Australia. There’s nowhere else that I’d rather be than ATB.

Wherever I worked, I was focused on one area and was dedicated to that. But [ATB] is very dynamic. There are so many vertical lines: personal banking, retail and business banking, and even in business banking there are so many [opportunities]. At ATB, it’s not like I’m just focused on one area.

What does it mean to be client obsessed in your role?

Client obsessed means that whenever I do testing, I feel that I’m doing it as a customer. Even though I am not directly interacting with a client, I always think about them and I always make sure that whatever I do, I make sure that they are not facing any problems.

When you tell your friends that you work at ATB, what do you tell them about?

I always tell them about the ATB work culture, and the way I’m developing myself and learning new things. That’s what I wanted to do and that’s what I’m doing. I feel really proud to be [a part of the] ATB family.
