Alberta wholesalers posted strong numbers in March

Seasonally adjusted wholesale sector revenue in Alberta grew by a solid 6.0 per cent in March

After pulling back by 2.7 per cent in February, seasonally adjusted wholesale sector revenue in Alberta grew by a solid 6.0 per cent in March. Adjusting for inflation, this is the best March on record since 2015.

Sales increased for the fifth month in a row on a year-over-year basis. This is a welcome improvement over the eight straight year-over-year declines that began in March 2020.

Month-over-month sales were up across all seven major sub-sectors, but were particularly strong for machinery, equipment and supplies ($162.5 million or 8.6 per cent) and for building materials and supplies ($102.7 million or 9.1 per cent).

Nationally, sales were up by 2.8 per cent in March versus February and by 12.8 per cent compared to 12 months earlier.
