Adjusted for seasonal variation, the number of job vacancies in Alberta stood at 98,015 as of the fourth quarter of 2022.

Although down from the recent peak set in the second quarter of 2022 (100,595), this was the third highest number of vacancies in Alberta since 2015.*

As a result, the job vacancy rate was still elevated at the end of last year at 4.7% compared to an average of 2.5% over the 2016-2019 period.

Alberta’s job vacancy rate peaked at 4.9% during the second quarter of 2022.

The national job vacancy rate has also moderated, going from a high of 5.6% (987,660 vacant positions) in the second quarter of 2022 to 4.9% (876,260 vacant positions) as of the fourth quarter.

Despite the reduction, the national vacancy rate was still well above the average set between 2016 and 2019 (2.9%).
