Jobs jumped in April
Alberta’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.9%

According to the latest Labour Force Survey results from Statistics Canada, Alberta added both full-time and part-time jobs in April.
After adjusting for seasonal effects, employment in the province rose by 16,000 for a monthly increase in April of 0.7%.
The number of full-time positions went up by 9,800 (0.5%) while part-time employment went up by 6,100 (1.4%).
Nationally, employment rose by 15,300 (0.1%) with gains in five provinces eroded by losses in the other five.
Alberta’s unemployment rate in April was 5.9% compared to 6.5% in March.
Statistics Canada notes that “despite the provincial rate dropping in April, Calgary (7.2%) and Edmonton (6.9%) were among the census metropolitan areas with the highest unemployment rates (three-month moving averages).”
The unemployment rate in Canada as a whole was 5.2% in April compared to 5.3% in March.
