A pivotal experience for young Albertans
The USAY STEAM Workshop Series, supported by the ATB Community Foundation, is a series of hands-on workshops where young Albertans are challenged to design, build, and program robots.
"It wasn't just about building machines," says Samantha, a sixteen-year-old with a passion for electrical work. "It was about learning to think creatively and solve problems together."
This experience strengthened her STEM proficiency and honed critical thinking and collaborative skills—tangible outcomes we aim to enable in young people.
Rylan, also sixteen, echoes this sentiment, saying, "USAY has deepened my connection to my culture in ways I didn’t expect."
The program’s innovative land-based learning trip to Campbell River further enriched Rylan's experience.
"Our trip taught me new knowledge of the land," he reflects, "I feel more grounded in who I am because of what I learned." This cultural immersion deepened his connection to his heritage and fostered essential interpersonal skills and a broader understanding of the world around him.
ATB’s $25,000 contribution was the catalyst for these impactful experiences. Beyond this, our own ATB 101 students played a role by developing a contract template for youth working with Indigenous artists, providing practical, real-world learning.
