Before you apply
Should I apply for a donation or a sponsorship?
Donations are financial contributions to a charitable organization motivated by a desire to benefit the community, and without expectation of a return on investment.
Sponsorships are strategic partnerships negotiated with an organization or event holder that secure funding for the organization or event—in exchange for the sponsor’s access to audiences or involvement in specific initiatives that help the sponsor to achieve its brand and/or business objectives.
Donation Criteria
We support organizations and causes that uplift the wellbeing of Albertans, and that are working to advance the following:
- Mental health
- Financial empowerment
- Innovation in children in youth
Organizations that are successful in receiving a grant through ATB's donations program may not apply for another donation for a period of 12 months following the month the application was approved.
We like to see:
- Applications from organizations whose primary activities uplift Alberta and Albertans.
- Measurable outputs and outcomes associated with your organization and initiative.
In general, the ATB Financial granting program does not fund:
- Conferences, forums, trade shows, conventions or seminars
- Fundraising events, capital campaigns, or capital projects such as parks, infrastructure, etc.
- Film, video, television, book and digital productions. Learn how ATB supports arts and film financing
- Individuals or individual pursuits
- Political, lobbying, advocacy groups and associated activities or events
- Clubs and associations funded through fees
- Religious activities
- Sports teams, competitions and tournaments
- Student or alumni associations
- Scholarships & Bursaries
- Projects that are part of the ongoing responsibility of governments (eg. school operations, health programs, municipal programs, etc.)
What to expect:
If you’re eligible based on the criteria above, we would love to hear from you.
Applying for $10,000+ grants
To apply for grants of $10,000 or more, an Expression of Interest (EOI) must be completed.
If your EOI aligns with our funding priorities, we will be in touch to discuss next steps.
Please note: a code is required on the full application to apply for $10,000 or more in funding, which will be provided by our team.
For grants of $10,000 or more
If you are interested in being considered for a grant of $10,000 or more, we ask that you first complete a very short EOI form.
For grants less than $10,000, or if you've received a code to apply for a larger grant
ATB’s donation committees review applications every two months, from May to January. We aim to inform applicants of committee decisions within 90 days of receiving their applications.
Ready to apply?
If you're applying for a grant of less than $10,000 or if you’ve submitted an EOI and received a code, submit your application.
