Frequently Asked Questions

ATB isn’t an equity investor and the program is a value-added service for small businesses that currently bank with ATB.

In addition to being a current ATB business banking client, you’ll need to meet the following requirements to join ATB X:

  • Be an Alberta-based company in operation for at least 2 years
  • Have one founder who can participate in the hours required
  • Have at least $100,000 in annual general revenue in the last year
  • Employ at least 2 employees (founder(s) excluded)

If you’re an enterprising nonprofit or charity operating in Alberta that banks with ATB, we’d love for you to apply! Our program focuses on financial fundamentals for growth. This is a great opportunity to apply entrepreneurial thinking to your organization.

The program focuses on financial fundamentals for growing a business and offers our clients a chance to work on their business vs. in their business.

Topics can include:

  • Entrepreneur wellness
  • Preparing for business growth
  • Understanding financial statements and key financial ratios
  • Understanding and optimizing cash flow
  • Paying yourself as a business owner
  • Lender’s requirements
  • Options for investing business profits

All of the topics are presented by both industry and ATB experts who understand all areas of small business ownership.

The program can take up to five hours/week for six weeks total. You’re expected to show up to all of the weekly workshops and peer connection opportunities, typically held weekday mornings. We’ll send you a detailed schedule closer to the cohort launching. Founders and management-level employees are welcome to take the program together.

This is a virtual program facilitated through Google Meet.

Applications for ATB X can be submitted above. If accepted, you and your team will spend six weeks working with our experts to help you reach your growth goal and take your business to the next level.

On a base level, our ideal candidates meet the program requirements.

They have a clear financial growth goal or growth challenge to overcome and are coachable. They have a desire to grow and learn and want to connect with a community of other business owners.

We find that businesses that have been in operation for two or more years and have a growing team of two or more often get the most out of the program.

We offer ATB X three to four times per year. If you’re interested in the program please apply above and we’ll reach out when the next cohort is open.

  • Participants in the program will gain a wealth of financial knowledge through six weeks of expert learning sessions.
  • Each week will include the opportunity to connect with other businesses in the cohort for peer learning and accountability.
  • Participants will be better prepared to work with various financial experts such as accountants, bookkeepers, and lenders, to ensure the future success of their business.
