You can transfer money by Interac e-Transfer to anyone with a Canadian bank account. All you need is their email address—no cash or cheque required. It's a simple, secure and almost-instant way to send money in ATB Personal.

  1. Log in to ATB Personal.
  2. To use Interac e-Transfer features, you’ll need to create a profile.
    1. You’ll be prompted to do this if you try to make an Interac e-Transfer action without one.
    2. If you already have a profile, skip to step 4.
  3. To create an Interac® profile:
    1. From the Overview screen, click your name at the far right of the primary navigation to access the profile menu.
    2. From the profile menu, click Profile & Settings.
           i. Or, under Profile & Settings, click Settings.
    3. On the Profile & Settings screen, in the Settings tab, click Create profile.
    4. On the Create profile screen, enter your Name and Email address.
    5. Click Save.
  4. From the Overview screen, click Move Money in the primary navigation.
    1. Or you can click the Send by Interac e-Transfer quick link under any deposit account.
  5. From the Move Money menu, click Interac e-Transfer.
  6. On the Interac e-Transfer screen, in the Send money tab, select the account you want to send money From.
  7. Select the person or business (recipient) you want to send money To.
    1. Skip to step 9
  8. If you need to add a recipient:
    1. Click the Add recipient link.
      1. Or, from the More menu, click Manage contacts.
      2. On the Manage contacts screen, in the Recipients tab, click +Add recipient.
      3. Or click Recipients in the left navigation on any Interac e-Transfer move money screen.
    2. On the Add Recipient screen, enter the Recipient name and Recipient email address.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Enter a Security question. Your recipient may need to answer this to accept money by Interac e-Transfer. Helpful hint: create a question (max. 40 characters long) that can’t be guessed, that only you and the recipient can answer correctly. If you need to share the answer to a security question with your recipient, send it through text message or over the phone—not email—for increased security.
    5. Enter the Security Answer (single word, 3-25 characters).
    6. If you want to save this recipient to your list for future reference, make sure Save recipient to contacts is toggled ON.
    7. Click Add recipient.
    8. To help ensure the security of your online banking, you may be challenged to verify your identity using two-factor authentication.
  9. Enter the Amount of money you want to send (there’s a daily maximum of $5,000 that can be sent by Interac e-Transfer).
  10. If you want, you can write a Message (400 characters max, letters, numbers and spaces only) to the recipient. This message should not include the security answer.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Review all information to make sure it’s accurate.
  13. Click Send to complete the transfer.
  14. You’re all done!
