T​o open this low-interest line of credit (LOC), complete a credit check and submit proof of enrollment by September 30th of your post-secondary school year.

Access when you need to

Borrow up to $15,000 each year for up to two years.

Repay on your terms

​Pay only interest each month you're in school and for 12 months after graduation. Then, establish a repayment schedule with up to 10 years to repay the funds you borrowed.

Frequently Asked Questions

To qualify for the Students First Line of Credit, you must provide proof of enrolment in a full-time program at: 

  • A Canadian or American not-for-profit university, college, or technical school. High school upgrading and private for-profit vocational schools are not eligible. Your program term must be at least one year.
  • An Alberta private for-profit post secondary institution which is accredited and listed in the Alberta Government Private Career College Registry.

Note: Students attending private for-profit post secondary Institutions are ineligible for SFLOC if they are enrolled in the following programs:

  • High school equivalency
  • Adult basic education
  • Driving training
  • Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
  • Literacy training
  • Programs that do not lead to a credential (ie. certificate, diploma) such as personal or professional development, hobby, self-interest programs
    Programs that are less than 12 weeks in length
  • Private Career programs with less than 20 instruction/practicum hours in a typical school week
  • Upgrading or college preparatory courses

Acceptable proof of enrolment can include an original copy, photocopy, faxed copy, scanned copy or clear photo of:

  • A receipt for payment of tuition
  • A letter of acceptance from a qualifying post-secondary educational institution
  • A legible copy of student's timetable showing name, name of school and dates of the term

Yes, you are still eligible for this account. International students must have a qualified co-borrower who is a resident of Alberta.

Yes. You can access your LOC through ATB Online, the ATB Personal app and any ATB ABM.
