Visa Secure

Protect your card against unauthorized use when you shop online.

If you have an ATB debit card with the Visa logo, you automatically have Visa Secure—an authentication program that helps protect you from fraud. It works by confirming your identity when you make online purchases.

Not every online merchant offers Visa Secure. Those who do will display the Visa Secure badge on their webpage. This badge means the merchant is working together with Visa and ATB to provide an additional level of security to your online purchase.

Here’s how Visa Secure works:

  1. When you shop with a participating online merchant, you may be prompted to authorize your purchase using a unique one-time passcode, which you can choose to receive by SMS text or email.
  2. Confirm your purchase and complete your checkout by entering the passcode you received.
  3. The purchase will be authorized with the merchant and your purchase transaction will be approved.

If you don’t enter the one-time passcode, we won’t be able to authorize your purchase and you’ll need to use a different form of payment. If you didn’t receive one, you should double check that the mobile number and/or email associated with your ATB debit card is up to date. Please call the number on the back of your debit card and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Please note: You’re responsible for your transactions when you use the Visa Secure service, unless you’re a victim of fraud. When you receive a one-time passcode, keep it safe. Please don’t share it with anyone or write it down.

There are a couple of different possibilities. Your one-time passcode is sent to the phone number or email associated with your ATB debit card, which may need to be updated. Please call the number on the back of your card and we’ll update your information.

Also, the delivery of your one-time passcode by SMS or email may be interrupted if your phone isn’t connected to your wireless carrier, if there’s a disruption with your email service or because of other factors out of the control of your service provider. Sorry, ATB can’t make any guarantees regarding the operation of Visa Secure or your service provider.

Contact the number on the back of your ATB debit card to update your contact information. The new information you provide will be validated in real time. You can then retry the transaction.

If you’re prompted to enter a one-time passcode and you don’t have a way to receive the code, your transaction may be denied. If you contact the number on the back of your ATB debit card, we can help you complete your transaction.

Move and track your money—online or on your phone.
