FAQs

What do I need to send a Global Transfer?

Already an ATB customer? You’ll need a current address on file with ATB, as well as your recipient’s name and address, bank country, account name and account number. Specific countries may require additional information prompted by the system: branch code, transit code, routing number, purpose of payment, etc.

Note: When sending to US bank accounts, the ABA routing number needed is the ACH/electronic transfers number (NOT the Fedwire ABA routing number.)

Not an ATB customer? Browse our accounts and sign up easily online.

Are there fees involved?

ATB may charge a service fee depending on the amount sent and what type of account you have. All service fees are provided up front at the time of your Global Transfer request. You may be charged an additional fee if your recipient's information is incorrect and their bank returns the transfer.

How is the foreign exchange conversion calculated on Global Transfers transactions?

ATB Global Transfers rates are based on real-time foreign exchange rates for all Global Transfers including USD exchanges. This ensures you receive accurate, real-time pricing every time you send a Global Transfer.

What does my recipient need to receive funds?

Your recipient just needs to have a bank account that can accept deposits.

Can ATB Business customers send Global Transfers?

Unfortunately not. International business transfers require different information and follow a different process not supported by Global Transfers. ATB may be able to support your business needs by setting up a wire transfer for you. Visit ATB Online for Business, or visit your nearest ATB Branch.

What if my recipient’s country is not listed?

If you are trying to send funds to a country not serviced by Global Transfers, please contact your nearest ATB branch to determine if an international wire transfer can be sent instead.

How can I check the status of my Global Transfer?

You can use the Global Transfer History tab to view the status of your order. It usually takes between one and three business days to deliver. If you send a transfer on a weekend or a bank holiday it may take longer.

If you send funds to a destination serviced by wires it may take longer based on the partner banks who help process the request.

You may see the following status types:

  • "Validating" indicates we’re checking the details of your Global Transfer.
  • "Processing" indicates the funds have not been sent to your recipient yet.
  • "Completed" indicates the funds have been sent to your recipient.
  • "Failed" indicates delivery to your recipient wasn’t completed. Double click on the item to view reasons and any instructions.

What does "Invalid Bank Code" mean?

That means the bank code is incorrect. Please check with your recipient to confirm their banking information and try your transfer again. For transfers to the Philippines or Thailand, you can see the list of banks that accept Global Transfers above. If you don’t see your recipient’s bank listed there, please visit an ATB branch to send a wire transfer instead.

My recipient’s bank doesn’t accept electronic transfers, what can I do?

This may come up when sending to recipients in the Philippines or Thailand. You can see the list of Philippines and Thailand banks that accept Global Transfers above. Please visit an ATB branch to send a wire transfer instead.
