Your November Financial Calendar
A week-by-week guide to staying on track, avoiding holiday impulse spending, and making smart financial moves.

November is usually the month where our budgets quietly throw in the towel. Between early Black Friday countdown timers, group chat holiday plans, and sales claiming you’ll save if you just buy right now, it’s easy to feel the spending panic set in.
Instead of avoiding your banking app until January, we are entering November with a plan.
Think of this month as a balancing act between strategic splurges and high-alert life planning. Whether you’re trying not to overspend on the holidays or keeping your long term goals top of mind, here is how to build your own November financial calendar week by week.
November Check in
- Mood: Tactical spending & big-picture moves.
- Golden Rule: If it wasn't already on the list before sales drop, it's not on sale—it’s just an expense!
Grab your favourite notebook or open up a fresh notes app page, divide it into four sections, and let’s map out your month.
Week 1 (Nov 1–7): The Gift List & The Dollar Cap
Before the holiday rush kicks into overdrive, make all your spending decisions while your brain is still calm and caffeinated.
- List your people: Write out every single person you plan to buy for family, friends, coworkers, the dog groomer, everyone.
- Drop a hard dollar cap next to each name: No vague ranges. Pick an exact number, total it up, and pull those funds directly from your holiday sinking fund (the cash you started tucking away in September). If you don’t have a sinking fund, this total is your hard spending ceiling.
- Book friend dates early: December is chaotic. Reach out to close friends now to set up low-cost hangouts (potlucks, holiday movie nights, or coffee dates) before every weekend is eaten up by expensive dinners out.
Week 2 (Nov 8–14): The Pre-Sale Lockout & Reset
Retailers spend this week flooding your inbox with "VIP Early Access" emails. Don't take the bait.
- Enter the low-spend zone: Put an official freeze on buying personal items. No cute sweaters, no backup skincare, no early decor. If you genuinely need something you will still want it by the time Black Friday and Cyber Monday hit meaning deeper sales, waiting gives you a built-in cooling-off period (ahem- 24 hour rule still applies to sales).
- Nov 11 (Remembrance Day): Challenge yourself to a no spend stat-holiday.
Week 3 (Nov 15–21): The Spring Down Payment Check & The Closet Dive
While everyone else is obsessing over 20% off air fryers, you’re making moves on the biggest financial asset in your life: your future home.
- 🔑 The Homebuyer 90-Day Rule: Dreaming of buying a home in early spring? Time to check your Home Buyers’ Plan (HBP). You can pull up to $60,000 tax-free from your RRSP toward your first home. But here’s the fine print: those funds must sit in your RRSP for at least 90 continuous days before you withdraw them. If you want to make an offer in February or March, your cash needs to be parked in the right account by this week.
- Go closet diving: Before you buy a single holiday party outfit or winter coat, pull everything out of your closet. Try on your favourite party dresses, look at your shoes, and take inventory. Knowing what you already own is the best antidote to Black Friday impulse buys.
- Lock in grooming appointments: Book your haircut, nails, or salon slots now. By mid-December, prices surge and appointments are impossible to find.
Week 4 (Nov 22–30): Black Friday & Cyber Monday Survival
You’ve made it to the final boss of shopping months. Approach this week like a targeted mission: get in, grab what’s on the list, and get out.
- The wishlist-only rule: Shop strictly from your Week 1 gift roster and your Week 3 closet audit. If a trendy gadget wasn't on the list two weeks ago, it’s not a bargain for you.
- Run the numbers first: Before tapping "Complete Order," run your cart through your budget tracker. Remember if spending $50 more gets you free $10 shipping, close the tab and step away.
- Pay off the cart immediately: As soon as you make a planned holiday purchase on your credit card, transfer the exact amount over from your sinking fund. Keeping that balance at zero means you start December completely stress-free.
