Frequently asked questions

Only outgoing transactions—such as bill payments, withdrawals and outgoing transfers—will be charged. This applies to transactions done through an ATB automated banking machine (ABM), calls to Client Care or through telephone banking. Deposits and incoming transfers are free of charge.

The $25 monthly fee cap applies to the following transactions:

  • $3.75 ($2.00 bill payment fee + $1.75 withdrawal fee) each for bill payments made in-branch, at ABMs, through Client Care or telephone banking
  • $1.75 each for withdrawals and transfers made in-branch, at ABMs, through Client Care or telephone banking
  • $1.15 each for cheques redeemed on your account

Bill payments made through ATB Personal web and app are subject to fees, including the withdrawal fees.

Calls to Client Care are considered manual transactions, and carry the same charges as in-branch transactions. ABM and telephone banking transactions are considered to be electronic transactions.

Some transactions, such as sending Interac e-transfers and transactions at non-ATB ABMs, will be charged additional fees. These fees do not apply to the $25 monthly fee cap.

For more details on our account fees, see Additional Services and Associated Charges.

After you've applied and been approved for overdraft protection, you won't pay for it unless you decide to use it. If Overdraft Protection is used, there is a minimum charge of $4 or interest, whichever is greater. Interest is calculated daily on the daily closing overdrawn balance at 17.25% per annum, charged and payable monthly.1

Overdraft Protection is only available by application and on approved credit.

Yes, you can. The Pay As You Go Account can be a joint account, and applications can be done online.

Within Alberta, you pay regular fees at non-ATB ABMs. You should be notified of these fees and prompted to approve them before proceeding with the transaction.

Withdraw cash at any ABM outside Alberta, but within Canada, on our dime. We'll reimburse $4.50 per withdrawal for up to two withdrawals per month.

Travelling outside of Canada? Withdraw cash at any ABM on the Cirrus® network for a fee of $5 per withdrawal (this does not include fees you may agree to pay when making the withdrawal at the non-ATB ABM).2
